Today the world is practicing Social Distancing. An average human spends 13 hours a day in social environment which makes the current forced isolation very difficult in practice. However rather than looking at it as a curse, we can look at it as an opportunity to spend some of the quality time with family, reliving vibrant memories and building better relationships.
1. Coursera
Coursera is free to join and has made about 3800 courses free amid the Covid-19 Pandemic. It has courses from all backgrounds like programming, machine learning, data analysis, financial analysis, history, IT, biological sciences. Many courses are paid but you can access the course by giving up the certificate and you will get access to all the course materials including tests and quizzes. Coursera also provides Degree Programs like, MBA, Masters in Computer Science, etc.
Here's the catch: If you wish to acquire the certificate without paying for the course, you can always apply for the Financial Aid option made available for financial deprived students. Fill out an application that includes information about your educational background, career goals, and financial circumstances and based on your goals and financial circumstances your application will be approved or disapproved within 15 days.
2. Udemy
Udemy is an online learning and teaching marketplace with over 100000 courses and 24 million students. Learn programming, digital marketing, IT, Network Security, Operating Systems, Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Management, Adobe - Illustrator, Photoshop, LightRoom, After effects and many more. The benefit here is that these courses start from very scratch and take you up to advanced stages, so anyone with any skill level can enroll for the courses. However udemy does not offer free courses.
Here's the catch: Every month Udemy offers upto 96% discount on its courses for 2 to 3 days, and the course prices are as low as Rs. 385, which seems more than affordable for students who can afford an electronic gadget to consume such content.
3. Edx
edX is a massive open online course provider. It hosts online university-level courses in a wide range of disciplines to a worldwide student body, including some courses at no charge. edX was established in 2012 by Harvard University and The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Over 14 Million students have taken courses on wide range of topics on the platform. edX is a non-profit organization and hence does not charge any extra cost on which it could provide offers.
4. Khan Academy
Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom.Khan Academy provides math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more courses. All of Khan Academy's library of trusted, standards-aligned videos, articles, practice questions and lessons are completely free. Khan Academy's SAT prep program is high quality. It's a great introduction to the test and elevates the bar of free SAT materials. Students unable to afford books or prep programs have a useful resource to train for the test. Khan Academy is also a non profit educational organization.
5. Skillshare
Skillshare is known for providing courses on the creative side like Animation, Photography, Writing, Drawing, Graphic design, Illustrator etc. However it also provides courses on Business, Technology and Lifestyle. The benefit you get is that Skillshare teachers are icons, experts, and industry rock stars excited to share their experience, wisdom, and trusted tools with you. The majority of the courses focus on interaction than just lecturing which makes it more engaging than other platforms. Skillshare is a paid service, however you can access it for free for a certain time period.
